Does the center speaker need to be sealed?

I got a new center speaker and cut a trim piece for it. There is a little gap between the hole for the speaker and the trim piece and also between the trim piece and the dash. Does the center speaker need to be sealed tight or are these gaps ok?

HEY GUYS MY BATTERY WAS SHOT I REPLACED IT BUT BEFORE I REPLACED IT WITH NEW ONE IT WAS GOING BONKERS WHILE I WAS DRIVING..SHUT OFF AND ON ETC..NOW MY ESP CANNOT WORK ITS ACTING CRAZY..ANY HELP??

when i press the stability button both heated seates buttons light up and thats all that happens?no sign on dash nothing>>?
i checked fuses..reset battery..
what can be the problem?

Bulb List for LED Swaps

I started this thread on the other board, and had forgotten to post it over here as well. Mods, if you want to sticky this list, I'd appreciate it. :)

Given that bulb numbers are requested constantly, and the Sylvania list is (or was) unreliable for our cars as they listed some incorrect or proprietary numbers, finding out what bulb numbers you need is a bit painful and currently requires a lot of searching around (I know from experience). Therefore, I figured I'd make a central list with all the numbers I have tracked down, as well as whether or not they are confirmed to work. I included a zipped Excel spreadsheet that I made for this which might be easier to read.

If anyone has numbers for any other bulbs I missed, or sees any mistakes in the list, let me know and I'll update the post.

Format:
[Bulb name]: [bulb number], [quantity needed (individual bulbs)], [Color (stock)], [Confirmed to work?]

Starred (*) bulbs require a resistor (6 ohms on each bulb) to be installed in order to avoid hyperflash, brake release blinking, output degradation, and other unsavory side-effects.

Exterior Bulbs:

Backup/Reverse: 1156, 2, White, Confirmed
Brake: 7443/7440, 2, Red, Confirmed
License plate/Tag: 194, 2, White, Confirmed
Sidemarkers (under headlight on front bumper cover): 194, 2, Amber, Confirmed
Side repeaters/fender turn signals (behind front wheels): 194, 2, Amber, Confirmed
Front turn signal: 1157, 2, Amber, Confirmed , *
Rear turn signal: 1156, 2, Amber, Confirmed , *
Foglight LEDs: 5202/9009, 2, White, Confirmed

Interior Bulbs:

Dome lights: 194, 4(sunroof)/2?(no sunroof), White, Confirmed
Trunk (also Glovebox, Center console): 211, 1, White, Confirmed

PLEASE BE AWARE THAT MANY SITES (SUCH AS V-LEDS) SELL MANY BULBS IN PAIRS! DOUBLE CHECK HOW MANY BULBS YOU ARE BUYING SO YOU DON'T ORDER MORE THAN YOU NEED!

If you are going to add a glovebox light (or if your '08 G8 has it and you're going to swap it to LED), or a center console light, the same bulb type as the trunk light will work.

I've now confirmed all bulbs in this list (except for fogs), as I've swapped all my bulbs for LEDs.

I believe non-sunroof cars have 2 interior bulbs as they lack the map lights... If anyone that owns a car sans sunroof can confirm I'll update things.

I will update this OP as needed.

Driving home from work tonight, I had the a/c on recirc, single zone, cranked all the way down to "c." Apparently my a/c doesn't think this is good enough, and after a few minutes of driving it decided to switch me over to dual zone, driver side on "c," and passenger side set to 62 degrees on its own. This is not the first time it's acted odd in the last few weeks.

Another scenario. Windows down, a/c off. A/C decides to magically turn itself on to dual zone settings, similar to tonight's issue temperature-wise. I turned it off. A few minutes later it turned itself back on. Keep in mind that it's not turning on in "auto" mode, it turned on to dual zone settings again.

I never run it in auto mode. I never run it dual zone. Did these other modes get jealous? Is it an electrical gremlin? I didn't see anything in the manual relating to an auto, auto mode. What gives? Any thoughts or similar experiences? Or am I going to have to have my dashboard ripped apart?

3rd Tailight Leds Completely out

I figured I would make a new thread just so that the other one doesn't become too cluttered.

I'm sure those that plan on using the unit are foaming at the mouth for the bezel portion of the project to be available. That may be my end result but I want to try making my own in the mean time.

That said, I have been searching for 2 days to find some sort of bezel for this screen. The 1 I have found is pretty basic, metal and $40! Here it is: http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/...2EO5ioLg%3d%3d

Can anyone tell me if I can get some sort of project box/bezel that I can at least cut up? It seems the only real option is to buy a junk hand held navi and go to town.

Can anyone help here?

I pulled the dash cluster out to fix a rattle on my 2010 G8 Sport Truck and when I installed it all the speedo and tach weren't working.

They both work in Engineering Mode so it's not a sensor issue. Do I need to reset the Tech 2 system?

I tried disconnecting the battery but it didn't fix the problem.

Any ideas folks?

Optima does not have a vented battery for us. They say theirs should be vented. Are they just protecting themselves or should I get a battery that can be vented?

OK, if you're doing the math, it's a little over $1000. But, I already had a few of these things at home. I've spent exactly $997.

This is a list of everything needed to put together a brand-new system, only re-using the stock head unit. I put all the components together last night on my kitchen table, with a car battery powering everything and an old HU from another car. Crystal clear sound! Next step is actually putting it into the car.

Here is how the whole thing will be installed.

From the HU, I will cut all speaker wires (RF, LF, RR, LR). I plan on splicing these into the speed wire. I might go ahead and get my switched power from there, also, since the speed wire has a blue wire specificially for this purpose - if not, I'll get it from the white plug in the trunk.

As for powering the amp, I only bought the short power wire, but a long 6' ground. I have already cut the ground down to 2', and spliced the remaining 4' into the power fuse. I will most likely have to get some kind of battery post clamp for the power wire, but we'll get to that later.

The sub already has a box, but I'll get rid of that. The sub and amp will go into the spare tire area. I am going to run all new speaker wires from the amp to the speakers. I contemplated just running speed wire back to the HU, and hitting the stock wires. I've decided against for 2 reasons. First, I'm spending all this time and effort, may as well take another few hours and do it right. Second, the stock wires are thin, as is the speed wire. I'd rather have 10' of thick speaker wire than 25' of thin wire (from amp, up to HU, then back to doors). I'm afraid of signal degradation.

I'll be getting rid of the center speaker completely.

Gotta put sound deadening on the doors. I'm also gonna put it on the rear deck, and then whatever's left in the trunk (I can always do trunk later - it's easy to get to). I will remove the stock subs, and probably leave the holes open. I'm going to experiment with it (cheap cover attached from the bottom that I can remove) to see if being able to hear the sub better is worth the increased road noise.

Anyway, I think that's about it for now.

Switch blade buttons falling out.

The buttons on my switch blade remote are cracking and coming out. I see the 2010 camaro uses basically the same remote....any reason why one can't be programmed to our cars?

Checked out my buddies new SS in person and I love the gauges below the radio. Has anyone swapped these to the G8 or thought of it. I know it would require some work but I think it would be possible.

ok well i started my car up after leaving the bank and everything was on but no display on the screen just blank....i tried ot search but i didnt find anything...is this going to be a problem in months to come? when i turned the car off and restarted it the screen came up no problem. i didnt put it in stealth mode. but i tried to hit the buttons to see if that would turn the radio display on or off but nothing happened...

Apple Composite Cable Hard Wired to Cig Lighter

Has anyone done this? I'm getting my apple composite cable today, going to use it in the rear aux inputs for my iphone. I'd like to hardwire it to the back of the cig lighter so my iphone charges when plugged in. I dont want to hack up my new cable if its not possible thou.
