Thread: Need more grip for track.

    Default Need more grip for track.

    Hey Guys, I just got my Maggie installed and now have 557rwhp. I would like to go to the track soon, never been before.

    Problem is, without TC ON, I have no traction. Current setup is 20" BOSS 328s with 245/35ZR20 Nitto NT555 Extreme ZRs.

    What should I do, these tires are still fine for everything but WOT from a dead stop.

    Should I just get some wheels and DRs to swap out at the strip? If so, what will be good enough and the most economical.

    All input is welcome.
    Thanks.

    I recommend that you start to practice with your stock nittos doing launches on a deserted road. You will have to feather the throttle and pick up some mph's before going wot.

    Yes, many have second or even third sets. I have a winter set, a summer set, and half a set with the DRs. Stock 18" wheels can be used with 265 width MT DRs.

    Rotohack 102 intake - NW 102 TB - TVS1900 2.8" - Livernois Stage 1C cam - Kooks 1 7/8 LT headers - no cats
    Corsa catback - 3.27 diff with TruTrac - MT DRs - CTS-V fuel pump - Alkycontrol meth - G8-4-Speed tune

    New = 11.013@127.50 1.70 60' DA 1417 - ? rwhp ? rwtq

    I do not have my stock wheels as my current wheels were installed by dealer prior to me purchasing car. So I will have to buy new wheels. You think 17s? If so, 8.5? Are Mickey Thompson's the best bang for the buck?

    I am not a big fan of the NT555's and with that much whp on a 245 just about any street tire is going to struggle with a wot launch, MT's in my and many others experience for sure are the best bang for the buck and my car easily cuts 1.69 60 foots with 275/40/17's on an 8.5 inch rim. They are by far my favorite drag radial and capable of handling the power your car is putting out, just make sure you get them nice and hot as they need some heat to stick the best.
